Fabricator / Welder

  • Fabricator / Welder

    Objectives

    To carry out all workshop operations for the production of high-quality structural steelwork, architectural metal works and associated products; to assist and mentor work colleagues, and where necessary to carry on work on site.

    Key Tasks

    • Report any accidents or “near-misses” to the Works Foreman in accordance with RIDDOR
    • Always Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and report any damage or losses of safety equipment to the Works Foreman
    • Work unsupervised and use all workshop equipment including jigs
    • Cut steel lengths and clean edges to form required lengths and plates
    • Daily inspections of workshop plant and equipment - reporting any defects to the Works Foreman
    • Where able, undertake general maintenance of tools and equipment
    • Read and understand fabrication drawings of a complex nature and execute associated works in line with qualified Welding Process Specifications or Work Instructions
    • Undertake Weld Qualification Tests on new products as detailed in Preliminary Welding Process Specifications and in accordance with BS EN ISO 15613
    • Welding Co-ordination and inspection of own work and that completed by others, in line with the Welding Quality Management System
    • Identification and reporting of defects/non-conformities to the Responsible Welding Co-Ordinator or Foreman in line with the Welding Quality Management System
    • Co-ordinate timesheets and accurately record hours clocked against job numbers with new Strumis software on a weekly basis
    • Provide advice and guidance to improvers and work colleagues
    • Liaise with drawing office over any fabrication drawing queries

    Core Skills

    • Competent in Manual Handling
    • Competent in use and changing of Abrasive Wheels
    • Welding qualifications in line with company WQMS
    • Recognised training/apprenticeship or trade experience
    • Communication with team and management
    • Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management
