Project:
North London Collegiate School Access Stairs
Services:
Survey; Specification; Design; Manufacture; Delivery; Installation
Brief:
The school’s brief was to supply a staircase to access the 1st floor walkway running around the existing building. In addition to the obvious safety issues, the challenge was to create a staircase that matched the surrounding balustrade design to have it “in keeping with the existing building”.
Stage 1:
Plans, costs and CAD drawings were submitted and given the seal of approval.
Stage 2:
HBE Services created general arrangement drawings for approval from client.
Stage 3:
Following approval, fabrication drawings were created from the approved CAD layouts and fabrication was then undertaken at the factory.
Stage 4:
All component parts were galvanised, painted and delivered to site.
Stage 5:
The main contractor builder was commissioned to construct concrete foundations that would level and support the final structure to an exact specification. Due to the remote location of the staircase, HBE Services were unable to get any lifting equipment to the area. This meant we had to work closely with the main contractor to establish a safe system of work. However this was overcome and the structure successfully installed.
Summary:
The entire project took nearly two weeks to complete due to its complexity. The school were very happy with the solution and is talking to HBE Services about a number of other projects.
